Franklin Joins in Three Notable Green Building Projects
Franklin’s focus on building awareness of its green adhesives, caulks and sealants – coupled with a deep commitment both to indoor air quality and the environment itself – have led Franklin to the doors of three prominent green building projects. Franklin is donating Titebond® green building products for each of these projects. The projects include a school, an EarthCraft home and a green home built by high school students.
The ABC’s of Green Building at the Waldorf School
Franklin is helping to build the “greenest school in America” – Charlottesville Waldorf School – through the donation of all adhesives, caulks and sealants used in construction of the school. The Waldorf School is the first school to be built “green” to meet LEED Silver or Platinum certification.
The 7,000-square-foot grade school slated for completion this fall is one of two schools the Charlottesville Waldorf Foundation is building in Charlottesville, Va. The foundation also is building an 18,000-square foot building for middle-school students, to be completed the end of 2008. The foundation will add a gym, performance theatre and high school over the next five years.
As a sponsor of the Waldorf schools, Titebond® is featured on the Web site, www.greenestschool.org, and is recognized in relevant Waldorf publicity. That’s a good opportunity for Franklin, since the school already has received mention in the likes of magazines such as Forbes.
EarthCraft/TecHome Blends Modernity and History
Franklin is helping fight the battle against environmental disregard through sponsorship of a green home in a pre-Civil War neighborhood in Atlanta, Ga. The company is providing adhesives, caulks and sealants for the EarthCraft/TecHome Showcase House, a new Tudor-style home that is replacing an existing ante-bellum house. The new home was designed to match the charm of the surrounding historic homes while providing modern amenities. The entire project will adhere to the principles of green building and the EarthCraft House program: energy efficiency, indoor air quality, sustainable material use and durable construction methods.
The EarthCraft/TecHome Showcase will be featured during the 2007 Southern Building Show and in GreenBuilder magazine and TecHome Builder magazine.
The house is part of the EarthCraft House Program, a partnership between Southface and the Greater Atlanta HBA. The program serves as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment.

High School Students Build Affordable Green Home
Franklin also is helping high school students in its home town of Columbus, Ohio build a “green” home for a hard-working, low-income family. The students are enrolled in the Home BASE program, through Worthington Kilbourne High School, and are working in conjunction with the Columbus Green Building Forum to build what could be the nation’s second home to receive LEED Platinum certification. Platinum certification recognizes the highest performance levels in five areas of best-practices environmental features.
Home BASE previously built nine homes for Habitat for Humanity.
